THE BRIEF

Displaying more than 120 kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, Laings of Inverurie showroom is one of the largest in Scotland.

Having already installed several electric vehicle (EV) chargers for staff and customers eight years ago as part of its journey to net zero, the team decided it was time to install solar panels.

Like so many other businesses across the country, Laings was also experiencing a spike in running costs and energy bills.

THE SOLUTION

Having assessed the roof and internal space at the 17,000sqft showroom, the i-Protech team recommended the installation of 125 X Longi 500W panels with Tigo Solar optimisers, and a 50KW PV Inverter.

They also fitted a further three EV chargers. With an estimated target saving of 40%, estimates show that payback will be in year three.

THE RESULT

Laings Managing Director Darren Walker said taking those steps towards improving sustainability has been important for the company.

“Our install took place in January, not the easiest time of year weather wise, but all went smoothly and the team at i-Protech was always on hand and quick to respond if we had any queries.

“We are delighted to now have solar panels generating 40% of the electricity we use at the showroom and as the weather improves, the solar performance will only get better.

“In terms of attaining net zero, we would highly recommend getting a solar panel system installed. Everyone has a responsibility and a part to play in helping the country reach its targets. We look forward to working on our next solar project within the business, to take us to the next stage of our net zero journey.”
