THE BRIEF

Westhill Service Station in Skene uses a lot of electricity every day, from the car wash to the fridges and freezers in the shop, to the tills and the general lighting and heating.

Like every other business, their energy bills were rising rapidly, almost doubling monthly.  The company decided to invest in solar energy to try and offset some of the costs.

Trainee Manager Andrew Simpson has known i-Protech owner Stuart for many years so approached him for a quote.

THE SOLUTION

Late last year, i-Protech Lead Renewables co-ordinator Chay Esson surveyed the site, reviewing the size of the station and its monthly energy use.

Over two days in February, the team installed 30 Trina Vertex S+ panels with a total system size of 12.9kW onto the south facing roof space. It was also decided that because almost 100% of the energy generated would be used each day, there would be no point in installing storage batteries.

THE RESULT

Chay said that the business would enjoy estimated savings of more than £7.5k per annum, with the best savings starting in late Spring through to mid-Autumn.

“This is a reserved estimation as we find most of the systems actually outperform the predicted savings,” he said. “At this rate, the system will have paid for itself in full in less than two years.”

“We are very pleased with the result,” said Andrew. “We were keen to use a local company and they were excellent to deal with. The whole process was very good from start to finish – the team was open and honest about what we needed and what we didn’t need, and the prices were competitive.”
